

Two police officers charged in 17-year-old murder case
In August 2002, the mutilated bodies of two girls, aged 17 and 18, were found in the village of Selenginsk in Buryatia. Local residents Evgeniya Shekunova and Ekaterina Pateyuk were killed.
Then the killers were not found and the case was closed, but the investigation was helped by the case.
On December 26, 2019, in the case of the abduction and attempted murder of another girl, another suspect was detained – a native of Chita Alexander Popov.
Alexander Popov, a former police officer, was released from custody in exchange for testifying.
He told investigators that 17 years ago two of his former colleagues.
In December 2019, the former police department operative Vladimir Kazadaev and the current employee, the head of the police department, Yevgeny Inkin, were detained.
