A powerful explosion at the Zagorsk optical-mechanical plant

The explosion took place in a building rented by a company that produces fireworks, according to official sources.

However, unexploded 122-caliber artillery shells were found at the site of the explosion.

What was actually hidden behind the sign of the fireworks company is unknown. The Zagorsk Optical and Mechanical Plant is owned by the Rostec company, which manufactures weapons for the Russian army.

As a result of the explosion, 4 buildings on the territory of the enterprise were destroyed, windows were broken in neighboring houses.

More than 60 people were injured, 9 people were missing. Probably their bodies are under the rubble.

A state of emergency has been declared in Sergiev Posad, rescuers are working on the spot.

What caused the explosion is still unknown, official sources say that the explosion occurred for technological reasons during loading and unloading operations.
